COP24

The capital of Upper Silesia will host COP24

This year, the most important global forum dedicated to global climate policy (COP24) will take place in Katowice, Poland.

UN climate summits or COP (Conference of the Parties) are global conferences during which climate policy measures are negotiated. Poland hosted them twice already: in 2008 in Poznań, and in 2013 in Warsaw.

In December 2018, the climate summit will be held for the first time in Katowice. In April 2017, the delegates of the UN technical mission, who were visiting the capital of Upper Silesia appreciated the city for being very well prepared to the organization of the event, including infrastructure meeting very high requirements.

Katowice’s bid for holding the conference was highly appreciated by Mateusz Morawiecki, the then Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of the Finance and Development, and Professor Jan Szyszko, the former Minister of Environment who underlined that the whole region of Upper Silesia and the Basin is a very important example of what can be achieved thanks to the consistent policy of sustainable development and economic transformation.

As part of this year's summit, two important events will take place: 24th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP24), 14th Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 14), and the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Paris Agreement (CMA 1).

About 20,000 people from 190 countries will participate in the event, including politicians, representatives of non-governmental organizations, scientists and businessmen.
